Social dieting…

Tomorrow is my 55th day of logging my foods, exercise, and nutrition habits into  I have the app on my phone and I have even made a few friends.  It is amazing to follow the progress and transitions myself and others have made over that short of an amount of time.  Simply seeing the reality of what I was doing to my body was crazy.

Honestly I am not what you would call a “clean eater” but I try my hardest to do my best on the budget I have.

In this pursuit of a healthier self the first thing I did was talk to friends who have been doing this for a long time as well as researching the safe behaviors while you make such a drastic lifestyle (its not a diet) change.

I love MFP but there is a dark underground (like most social platforms) that makes the fun of logging and celebrating…shitty and depressing…  People.  People with shitty opinions, people who think all people are the same, people who think their way is the right way, people who lost weight and think they can help all of the people even if they don’t want it, people ruin most things.  Granted most of my MFP friends are pretty cool and you only really run into the occasional asshole and if an asshole tries to add you…more than likely, they find you asshole worthy which is not very often.

I am not in a hurry to join the asshole society of MFP.  This battle is my own and I couldn’t give two shits about what you ate today unless you’re my friend and we’re discussing recipes or I am being facetious.  So, no…you cannot help me if I allow public access to my “diary”.

Everything has it’s downside and for MFP this con happens to be the overly social aspect about something that should at least be semi-personal.  So…what about the pros?  Do they outweigh the cons?

Pros to using MyFitnessPal:

  • It has a nifty app that works with Android Phones, Windows Phones, and Iphones making it incredibly easy to schedule into your daily life.
  • You can log your foods, set goals, and keep them.
  • Log your exercise so you know how active you are and what you should work on next.
  • Make some awesome exercise pals who encourage and ask about you when you fall down.
  • Privacy settings.
  • Nutrition tracking so you can properly maintain a balanced diet provided you are honest about how you eat.

Overall the app and website are totally worth being a part of and there is something to be said about before and after photos…real ones…not just the faked, photoshopped, bullshit ones advertised in most popular diet commercials.  You are watching (in real time) the transition from obese to overweight to fit.  Its pretty effin awesome!

Easy Pineapple Coffeecake

This recipe is something I found in a pinch and of course I tweaked it to include less butter and sugar than the rest.  I also switched out apples for pineapple as a “test” which turned out to be a huge success.  I was bored, wanted something sweet, and wanted to bake all at the same time so I figured…Bisquick Coffeecake….why, not?  Everyone has a box of this stuff laying around somewhere and if they don’t…they should.  It also makes incredible drop biscuits that taste just like Red Lobster’s Cheddar Bay Biscuits…that I will show you how to make later.


Easy Bisquick Pineapple Coffeecake Serves 12

(Approx 187 calories per piece)

Preheat oven to 400 Degrees

For this recipe you will need a 9 inch pan.

Yes, I am talking about a brownie pan.


2 cups of Bisquick

1/2 cup of Water

1/2 cup of Milk

1/4 cup Brown Sugar

1 Egg

1 cup of Dole Crushed Pineapple in 100% juice

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

1 1/2 tbsp Cinnamon

Combine all ingredients until the consistency is that of cake batter.

Grease brownie pan and pour batter in and set to the side…

Cake Topping:

1/3 cup of Bisquick

1/3 cup of Brown Sugar

1/2 tsp of Cinnamon

4 tbsp of Stick Butter

Combine dry ingredients until well blended and sprinkle evenly over the top of uncooked cake batter.

Dice the butter into small pieces and sprinkle evenly over the cake topping.

Bake on 400 Degrees for 20 to 30 minutes depending on your oven.

Note:  Wait until cake is fully cooled to cut it (I didn’t.  LOL!)

1/2 tbsp Cinnamon

Fat Shaming Vs Fat Acceptance – Why you’re both doing it wrong…

The latest in social media is the argument about America’s fast growing obesity rate and it is not something you can overlook when things are posted that are incredibly ignorant.  There are three sides to this argument…

Those who are advocating fat shaming by announcing that people who are overweight are not only terrible but are also child neglecting scumbags that have no right to breathe the air that the slim people breathe.  Fat shamers throw around stereotypes and note them as fact.

Overweight people are unwashed.

Overweight people are lazy.

Overweight people are grouchy.

I have seen so many comments geared toward the obese suggesting they starve themselves because, “Hey!  You can live for years off of the fat in your body.”  Seems legit.  Right?  Anyway…no matter how incredibly moronic these people make themselves sound, there is another side to this battle that holds great potential to be equally as ignorant.

The fat acceptance advocate who will stop at nothing to do the very same thing the fat shamer sets out to do…  Win the argument, stand for “something”, make someone who has a contradicting point-of-view see that they are the correct ones.  When in all honesty the only thing these groups are really doing is arguing in circles until someone gets bored and throws in the towel.  Both leave with their own opinion stapled firmly in place….

The thing is that more often than not both sides will also bring some seriously vital points to the argument which of course are camouflaged in layers upon layers of pointless overly-opinionated bullshit.

Fat Shaming People’s Valid Points:

Lose weight for your own health.

Obesity is one leading cause of cancers, diabetes, and heart/brain disease.

Lose weight so your children may see a good example and eat healthy themselves.

Make good choices.

Fat Accepting People’s Valid Points:

Just because people are slim doesn’t make them healthy.

Love yourself for who you are and who cares what others think?

Make your OWN choices that aren’t based on someone’s opinion.

It is ok to be larger than a size one.

You don’t have to pick sides and it is perfectly fine to agree with some points that both sides have.  Of course with the overwhelming need to take a stand in today’s unnatural politically correct society, you shouldn’t be surprised if you lose friends for not agreeing.  That’s just the way it is.  The point is to stop putting pressure on people in a society that is already full of it and remember that stress over stupid little things like this is yet another leading cause to serious health issues…including obesity.
